January 2010 Friends of Scott-Friends to Children with Cancer
It is the mission of the Friends of Scott Foundation to help children with cancer and their families.
Our programs are designed to meet the emotional, educational, and financial needs
of families trying to cope with this devastating disease.

So here we are, on the brink of another year, with fresh hopes and dreams...a clean slate. For me though, January serves as a sad reminder that it's been another year since I last held Scott, heard his voice, or saw his smile.

But this year, I decided to focus on things that kept me feeling positive and happy. I started by getting back into reading. I wanted to revisit books I had enjoyed and found inspirational in the past like God Winks by Squire Rushnell.

The book is a wonderful guide for positive reflection. It has a strong message that something good can come from tragedy. It helped me to see that in his short life, my young son brought so many wonderful things to my life. He helped Me to grow, and most importantly, learn how to give to others.

Now that January has come and gone, I look back at this month and recall many things that made me feel happy-cooking new recipes, listening to great music, laughing with friends and family-and I feel a renewed sense of warmth. I feel like I am on the right path again! Rereading God Winks reminded me that when life is in a bit of disarray, or I need a little hope, I have an angel watching over me! I know that the lucky coincidences I experience in life are really winks from above. From that boy with the unforgettable smile and huge heart-my son, Scott Delgadillo.

Unforgettable Prom™ Night

It's that time of year again! On Friday, April 23rd, Friends of Scott is hosting its 4th Annual Unforgettable Prom Night!

Prom is often a highlight of a teenager's high school years. It's a "can't miss" event, but kids with cancer often do. So for one special night, children undergoing cancer treatment from Rady Children's Hospital and Kaiser Hospital or cancer survivors, are treated like stars. The teens will be all dolled up-the guys in tuxedos provided by Friars Tux and the girls in gorgeous gowns provided by the Princess Project-with flowers from La Mesa Florist.

Limo

Fancy limousines will escort the teens from their homes throughout San Diego County to the San Diego Hall of Champions in Balboa Park. All of the Prom activities, from the music and food to the goodie bags and photo booth, are all donated by many wonderful community agencies and individuals like you. Your support is greatly appreciated!

If you would like to make a donation to support this year's Unforgettable Prom, please visit our website.

This month's Volunteers Brian and Flora

Brian & Flora

There are many reasons why we enjoying volunteering for FSF. We enjoy volunteering so much and being an outlet for the kids away from the hospital environment, that we plan our YEAR based on the bigger FSF annual events, where the kids can just be kids. We enjoy spending time with the children, to laugh, to play, to joke, to escape. Providing support for the parents, for them to have someone else to lean on during such a tough time. To touch the lives of families and children affected by cancer, to put an extra smile on a child's face, to know you made an impact, even a little one. Simply stated...that's why we do it.
