Cancer Survival Kits
Handy backpacks stocked with information essentials for parents (like books, community resource brochures) and entertainment items for kids (like a journal, disposable camera, portable DVD player). The backpacks are at the nurse's station so that every newly diagnosed child can receive one on the spot.
Arts & Crafts for Hospitalized Children
We bring arts and crafts supplies to the Starlight Room of Childern's Hospital; It's an excuse for the kids to leave their hospital rooms and socialize with other kids that know just how they feel. This monthly activity is a fun diversion from the day to day pain and fear of cancer.
Parent Support Group: Leche y Cafe
Armed with coffee, pastries, and shoulders to lean on, our volunteers provide moms and dads at Childern's Hospital Oncology Unit with a coffee break. It's a chance to relax, listen to music, visit with other parents, and talk to our volunteers about cooping with cancer. Currently we visit the hospital once a month; our goal is to drop by once a week.
Ready to Read literacy program
Friends of Scott Foundation volunteers visit the Oncology Unit weekly to read to children. Our goal is to encourage young childern to discover the timeless joy of reading. The Ready to Read program provides free books for the children to take home and enjoy over and over again.
Family Holiday Parties
Four times a year the Friends of Scott Foudation hosts a party where childern with cancer and their families can enjoy games, arts, and crafts, food and fun. At Christmas, every child with cancer in the hospital receives a toy and a new pair of comfy pajamas. The series of parties includes:

-
Mothers' Day
-
Summer Celebration
-
Halloween party

Christmas Posada

Tickets to Family Events
Throughout the year, Broadway San Diego provides the Friends of Scott Foundation with complimentary tickets to movies, plays and events such as Disney on Ice. In the Fall, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club sponsors our day at the Del Mar Races. These outings give children with cancer and their families the chance to be together away from the hospital and forget about the illness for a while.
Special Prom Night:
A night for teens with cancer to forget and enjoy life. This night is all about them:
Dresses, Tuxes, Limos, food and of course the best D.J. in town. On this night, they are the stars with a Red Carpet Entrance, and San Diego's very own paparazzi. This is an Unforgettable Evening!
Emergency Financial Assistance
More often than not, to provide proper care for their sick child, parents quit working. Financial troubles ensue, and in this economy, families struggle to meet their everyday needs. Friends of Scott Foundation offers families-in-need gift cards for food and gas and sometimes we cover delinquent utility bills upon request.
Friends of Scott proudly supports:
Teen Support Group: SOMBFAB
Ask any teenager, even those with cancer, "What can't you live without?" The reply is the same - friends, fun, music, movies.... and pizza! So the events for our teen support group, Some of My Best Friens are Bald (SOMBFAB), all featrue fun and refreshments. While Amy Crisman founder of SOMBFAB generously donates her time and refreshments for meetings, there is no funding for any special events that offer a short but welcome reprieve from the pain and fear of cancer.
